Neil,

it as a breeder?
Sure. The problem is that unknown
parent. I know what I did, so it's almost certain it was a modern, ruffled
non-SA TB. I really don't grow many SAs. The pollen on the seedling
doesn't look good this year. True of a lot things blooming,
unfortunately. I thought maybe SOLAR FIRE would open today, but we've had
a cold front blow through. It got down into the forties last night, but
that north wind makes it feel a lot colder. A change from that 86F in the
middle of the week. It's been windy throughout the bloom season.
Been hard to daub anything and I wonder if I'll get many seeds at all this
year. I'm pretty skeptical of the ones that are there. Balloons,
more than likely. They are on some highly unlikely crosses.
I check the new blooms on that seedling every day
to see if the appendages are holding. Some stalks are all bloomed now, but
there are a few blooms to go. So far there has been complete
consistancy. Plants are clearly stressed now, so I've been expecting them
to drop off.
I had a THORNBIRD X AB seedling bloom this
year. No hint of an appendage on the bloom.
