Re: Re: starting seeds & Wright intro's

Hey Chris, The quality of the rhizomes from Riverview was really good, especially the medians. I'd heard so many horror stories about them, that I was really afraid. I did order really early, so I think I might have been first in line. I got my order shipped to me in late july, so they weren't late like the garden watchdog group says. I'll check to see if they are the right variety when they bloom. If all is well, I'll leave them good feedback at the watchdog.
Thanks for all the info. on germinating and growing over winter, it's very much appreciated.
Thanks to Michael for posting the pic of Surreal. Looks kinda like everything plus in the pic. I'll have to compare them when they bloom.
Thanks again
Will Warner

Hey Will,

You'll surely gain a year by doing the burrito treatment.  MY
seedlings grew under Grolux bulbs for a few months before they were
moved outside and are absolutely HUGE compared to the seeds that
germinated naturally outdoors.  I was astounded by what a phenomenal
head start this gave 75 of my first seedlings from the burrito.   I'm
still not getting anywhere near 90% germination from  my efforts but
it was quite good this year.  The seeds that don't germinate in the
fridge get potted where they'll pretty much sprout when they're ready.

It's work intensive and the keeping the cats out has been a real
challenge but I found a plastic type wrap material with many holes in
it that's used to wrap cedar hedges to wrap around the entire setup
and only had one incident where Fluff managed to wrastle an Iris out
of there.

Bummer you didn't get any of the Wright  intros  you wanted.  I would
have been very disappointed.  How was the quality from Riverview this
year ?  I decided not to order this year so I could complete the
major garden clean up/ renovation that I started because of those
meddling borers.   I fully expect to order from there next year when
I'm more at ease with the challenges I''ve faced this year.

By they way, I think I started the burrito experiment last year in
October, earlier would be even better.

Good luck,
Chris
