RE: [SpaceAgeRobin] GETTING STARTED

Hi Bob,

Thornbird is an interesting parent I have found. If you research the
cultivars that have been introduced you will see quite a range of products.
I think agreeably the most successful use of Thornbird as a parent is seen
in Solar Fire. I had a seedling from Thornbird x Fan Flare bloom this
spring and it was simply atrocious! Thornbird passed along its fat,
oversized beards and thin, narrow foliage. If anything it would be a fun
experiment.

Pagan Pink has been very good about setting pods for me but I won't see
anything bloom from those crosses until next year.

Of the broken colored irises you acquired I would definitely try Millennium
Falcon and Toucan Tango simply for their excellent growth habits (at least
from my experience with them). Both of them grow like weeds here.

Just some random thoughts from rainy Iowa (where the largest set of orders
for our 2005 season still await to be dug amidst 5+ inches of rain in two
days).

I then bought the following BC Iris to use hybirdizing with the SA.
CHEETAH CHEESE, GRAPE SNAKES, UNSTABLE GENE, SPICED TIGER, NIGERIAN
RASPBERRY, KINKAJOU SHREW, MILLENNIUM FALCON, TOUCAN TANGO, SERERGETI
SPAGHETTI, PEEKABOO ZEBU.

Those of you who have grown these cv's and made successful SA crosses,
which would you recommmend using with these BC Iris? My goal is to
cross for SABCTB Iris.
