non SA cv's and Don Spoon

Hi Everybody,

I have a thought about a cv that I think might be an interesting non
SA parent. It doesn't realy fit into any of the categories, but I
do think it would be a good choice to give us interesting seedlings
that may be introduceable.

What would you think about using 'About Town'? It had the best
branching of any cv here last year and also has great bud count. (To
be fair, most of my new cv's had only been here one year and are
still trying to accept the fact that they have to grow here in
Nebraska <g>) It is a vigourous plant, and a good parent- 'Louisa's
Song'is probably it's best. It's pollen parent is 'Bubble Up', so
we'd have opportunity for pink seedlings. If we did decide to use
it, it should be pretty reasonably priced and I would have some that
I could share. It also is quite fertile both ways.

Neil, it's a great idea to involve Don Spoon. I think that our best
shot would be to lay out our plan and ask him if he has
suggestions. I did get a chance to meet him just very briefly last
year. If you haven't already e-mailed him Chris, I would be happy
to give it a shot too. He probably doesn't remember meeting me, but
he should recognize my name from the RIS.
