It seems I encounter poly petals in irises more on the first bloom on the stalk than at other times. It does not occur here enough to be referred to as frequent but it does usually occur enough to observe a few times each bloom season.
Conversely, it is more common here for poly petaled anomalies in daylilies to occur more often on the last bloom on the scape than the first.
