Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] Re: SA Seedling + SAGE

Hi,
I agree with Francelle.  I like all of them, or at least almost, but don't have
nearly enough room.  Seeing Mike's pictures is very nice.  It makes a person
want to try it himself just to see what would happen.  Chris's goal of just trying
get a seedling with a SA appendage sounds about right.  But then, where would
the seedlings grow?  Oh, the woes of having fun. :)

Chris-Yes, it does seem that it's been quiet for a long time.  Could you explain
what you are thinking about SAGE by reducing the number of breeders to one
or two?  Are there very many people participating now?  Would everyone just
use those one or two in an effort to generate larger quantities of seedlings in
order to compare results more quickly?

In going through some of the old messages over the winter, I read an article by
Neil Mogensen called the SAGE Review.  It was very interesting.  Is that the
current SAGE plan?  What does it mean when it says the "list of "1"s returned to
Bill Burleson"?  I understood the list to mean to try those highest on the list,
like Thornbird, first, but they also have numbers after them like 12 for Thornbird, and 11 for Mesmerizer.  What do these numbers mean?

It's good to see people writing a little again.  Only wish spring were closer.
Although, it's not too far.  The medians under my south facing window are
starting to send up new growth.  :)  Maybe I should move to California, so I
could get reblooms all winter long like Mike?

Francelle,

My only goal from the begining was a very modest desire to breed any
old seedling that had an SA appendage and I acheived that with flying
colors last year due to a very early melt. The fact that many of them
were dogs didn't bother me at all ;-)  It just gave me hope.

Ironically, I did find a IB sized (don't like the little ones much)
non Space Age seedling which I believe could be from Doctor No x Gnus
Flash that I've fallen in love with.  I dug it up and separated it
with hopes that I can work furthur with it and possibly use it for SA
breeding.  Somebody suggested crossing it back to Doctor No, but I
love it the way it is now.

For my crosses this year, I have a very strange variety of unusual
historics, Arilbreds and modern Space Agers that I got from
Superstition that I hope to cross together.  No I'm not necessarly
after modern form, I still interested in anything "different".  Yeah,
that grumpy guy (forget his name now) on Iris Photos might declare in
ugly but that's ok, I find him funny.

As for SAGE, it's been very quiet on the topic for a very long time.
My first thoughts would be to dramatically reduce the scope of the
experiment to just a few crosses with only one or two breeders to
allow more people to participate to start with.  Anybody have any
thoughts about this ?

Chris
