I was just looking through the photos section for the first time in
over two years and enjoyed looking at the Thornbird seedlings
folder. If any of you have interesting Tbird seedling photos to
share, I'd love to see them and possibly add them to the folder.
Thornbird has been a reliable grower for me in the North. It still
manages to poke it's head above the weeds every year but like all of
my other Irises, the spathes get invaded by little borers so I
consider myself lucky if I get to see at least one undamaged bloom.
It's an interesting parent, most of the seedlings grow poorly but a
small percentage will increase like crazy and prove to be worthy
Northern growers that are pretty handy at appendage production.
I always wanted to cross Thornbird with an Arilbred but my breeding
efforts will be on hold until I can get a suitable and less toxic
pesticide to control borers. Does anybody know is imidicloprid
based products are available yet in Canada ?
I'd really like to wage the greenest war possible vs these borers...
