Randy, I was really glad to see that you
had cross-posted this seedling photo to this robin. When I saw it this
morning on Iris-photos I intended to do just what you have already done.
Thank you!
As Bill Burleson commented, the photo says
something that goes far beyond what words can convey. I am impressed with
the quality of substance, width, form and so on the photo suggests. What a
marvelous first---I like Bill's suggestion of DEMARCATION. But who knows
what will sell?
What's in a name? I find it amazing that an
iris named DECADENCE has attracted the attention it has. Of course, the
photos published, especially Kathy Chilton's photo of the stalk she shot at
Keppel's garden last year, have contributed mightily to the interest. So
has Keppel's obvious enthusiasm for the variety. Keith does not often
write advance information about an upcoming intro with the degree of affection
he has demonstrated for this one.
I also expect Decadence to march right to the top
in the awards system. Since Keith and Barry Blyth chose to introduce the
variety here in the U. S. ahead of this fall's Australian introduction, the
variety goes into the awards mill here, not there, if I read the *Handbood*
correctly.
Should the Burleson-dubbed 'Demarcation' be
introduced, I know one person who is going to be standing in line to buy
it. I find it both beautiful and delightful.
