Re: When you Wish

Oh it drives me absolutely NUTS that I cannot find that picture of the WYW that looked just like a pink Mesmerizer when grown well.  I DID however find a picture of SCENTED BUBBLES growing in Shepard's Iris Garden several years ago that looks just like a BLUE Mesmerizer ...attached.  If any of you grow this iris, you will note that it has horns, not flounces. However here, it had flounces.  Last year, it did not.
 
Appendages express themselves differently in different climates, and from year to year, as does the color intensity of the flower when grown in different soil.  Up north the flowers are usually richer in color than they are here. After a few years of growing in the same soil, the color may even be different from the first year, just a bit.
 
I got this WYW from a friend who got it directly from Dickie as well.  I saw WYW in the Stahly Garden in Dallas looking just like a Pink Mesmerizer as well, so maybe it is a SW thing. 
 
I'd love to see a picture of it where you live Lois, if you have one.  It would be cool to see the differences.

If he means it has flounces then I guess it might but When You Wish here in my garden doesnot look anything like the picture he posted.  It is PINK, quite pink and the flounces are "feathered" where as Mesmerizer is "spooned".  For the Sage project it might be an interchangeable iris but in my garden they are very different.  I like his cross with Space Pirate--now blooming in my garden one of the few--actually
the last one almost. I will add I got my When you Wish directly from Misty Hills Gardens where Dickie developed it from Monty's stock which they aquired when he died.
