Thornbird itself has color that is unstable in direct sunlight. IRIS-PHOTO archieves has versions from rich colors to very pale in Arizona.

It can pass this tendency on to seedlings if strong blues or yellows are not used. This spring we have have had 4 times the normal amount of overcast days so this seedling (MESMERIZER X THORNBIRD) has shown its T'bird colors nicely. Last spring it quickly faded to peppermint beards and stripes on a pale pink self. (See stalk foto) Fall bloom was all pink selfs. I hope it reblooms again its second year. Should be interesting!
