Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] TB: SA0306

Will,

I guess I'll comment since nobody else has yet ;-)

I love the idea of working with the old Austin Space Agers, you've proven that Lemon Spoon passes on some impressive appendages. If you cross it with something with great form like Devonshire Cream, you could end up with modern form in the next generation.  I'd like to see this one before the down pour, I'm sure it would look a little less battered.   Lloyd would be pleased to know somebody is still daubing with his creations from 45 years ago.  You might end up with an exciting and more reliable and vigorous gene pool to work with.  How's the consistency on this one.

Did you or anybody happen to squeeze in any interesting SAGE crosses this year ?

Chris

Subject: [SpaceAgeRobin] TB: SA0306

First time for this seedling to bloom.  It tried last year, but the stalk got
frosted.  This year it's put up two big well branched tall stalks.  One stalk for
hybridizing, the other is for the iris show next weekend.  The stalks look alot
like lemon spoon, my favorite kind of branching.  This flower has several
inches of rain on it, and did pretty good. The falls are white with the banding
joyce terry type pattern, with more pronounced thumb prints.   It's out of the
unmarked batch.  I really like this one, form and SA expression are good with
fairly flared falls and flounces (that's a tongue twister).  My concern is the
color.  There seems to be sooo many yellow SA iris kinda like this.  Anybody
think this one is different enough?  I'm making crosses on it, put Louisa's
Song on this flower.  Louisa's song is by far my favorite non-SA iris to bloom
this year, amazing substance/width.  Starring is second.  Peekaboo zebu is
third, best BC i've seen.  Most all my crosses will be involving these two
crossed to SA.
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks
Will Warner
