RE: [SpaceAgeRobin] Re: Trumpet Concerto SA Iris

Chris,

I have been crossing daylilies for about 10 years making about 3,000 seedlings a year. From that I have about 100 keepers and have registered two with a few more that might make the final cut. I have over 500 varieties and several thousand seedlings coming along. I have only got in to iris these past few years and have made some TB crosses with only one unique enough to call a real keeper. Only last year after seeing some SA flounces did I really become interested. I bought a bunch of broken color Iris and SA Iris and discovered this robin surfing the web looking for SA information. This year I am making some SA crosses and would be interesting in obtaining some nice SA that produce flounces, maybe some one might want to trade some SA for daylilies? Last year I met Will Warner through the Robin. He lives about two hours away and we traded iris for spider daylilies. He also sent me about 200 SA seeds from about a dozer crosses he had extras of which I planted last fall and got about 95% germination from. So in a few years I hope to start seeing SA seedlings.

Any one interested in trading flounce SA for daylilies keep me in mind.

Bob,

I'm glad you're impressed with what you're seeing in your Space Age
Iris patch.  For the longest time, I could not get anything to bloom
with flounces, everything had horns or nothing at all and it was
very frustrating because I live in a cold zone 4.  Now, thanks to
two early Springs, I've been treated to some wonderful spoons and
flounces and even had seedlings bloom with rosettes.

I'll be glad to post some photos in two or three weeks when things
start blooming.  As is, it looks like the Arilbreds will bloom at
the same time as the TB's.  This should provide for some interesting
crosses.

Have you tried making any crosses yet Bob ?

Chris
