Bob,
These mutations here have been seen mostly on Space
Agers around here. I think it's a result of too many doses of SA
genes and possibly late freezes. It's clear to me that Space Agers are not
very stable with regards to appendage production and throw lots of deformed
blooms. In general, a late Spring will yield SA blooms with little
to no horns at all and ugly deformed blooms.
It's been raining for weeks here and the TB's
really are suffering, the AB's look much healthier by comparison. Go
figure. I sprayed for borers this year but I fear my application was not
timely. We'll see.
