{Disarmed} Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] Re: SA crosses

Chris,

The Tbird seedling didn't bloom. Not much bloom from TBs this year. Of the
several hundred here, probably only about 20 or so bloomed. Just a weird
year here altogether. A lot of ABs took the year off too. Some of those do
that anyway (along with a few TB cultivars that tend to be every other
year). Overall, though, I had really good bloom from the ABs and saw a lot
of new seedlings. Seeing the seedlings made it successful. But it was
successful in terms of weeks of bloom, too. The ABs just kept blooming. In
fact a few still are putting up repeat bloom stalks. Not something I've
seen before. It rained again last night. It's incredibly nice to have
everything so green and be able to feed the mosquitos every time I step
outside. The trees really needed this moisture. They were badly stressed
by the drought and many of the pecans that require more moisture have died
or have gone too far down the road to death to recover. The native oaks are
tougher, but nearly all of them were showing stress. They never recovered
from the damaging hail in May '06 since that was the last rain we had 'til
it finally started coming this spring. The mesquites will undoubtedly try
to encroach when other things are fading or less vigorous.
