Colleen, Good to hear that about SEA POWER.
YAQUINA BLUE has apparently been a highly productive parent for SA's according
to what Mike Sutton remembered from George's crosses with it and SA's. I
was hoping SEA POWER would have inherited that from its mama. Sounds like
there's a good chance it might have.
I did some digging on line about climate zones,
rainfall patterns and such in Australia, paying particular attention to the
Adelaide area. It looks like that section of South Australia has a rather
unique pattern that has no analogue with US climates. Much of the Perth
area, then again up and west of Adelaide is typical "Mediterranean" type, but
your area seems to be rather unusual because of the southward extension and the
peninsulas, islands to your west.
The normal extension southward and picking up in
Tasmania resembles what occurs in France and Oregon, but your area does not seem
to be. It has a pattern unique in the world climate zones,
apparently. The closest approximation might be what happens on the west
slope of the southern Appalachins, not far from here where we live. There
is an area that gets heavy Gulf moisture seasonally and is quite mild, but has a
lot of rain in the summer when hurricanes come inland--like happened three
times this year. In Australia the area that appears to get
Hurricane/Typhoon influence is in the extreme north. The shapes of the
continents make a whopping difference.
