Hello. I am new to this group, and also new to SA irises. I understand that the different appendages vary somewhat depending on growing conditions, temperature, soil PH, etc. Does anyone know which conditions are best for SA irises? Or does it vary from one to another? I have seen times, when there is a sudden change in the weather right when the bloom is forming, and it changes the color or form dramatically.
Are any one type of appendage more prominent than the others? It seems like I see a lot of SA irises with horns, but less of the other types?
Also, I saw the article about the SAGE project by Neil Mogensen. It was quite interesting. How long has the project been going on? Have you had much success in figuring the SA genetics out yet? I expect that such a project will take quite a while, but wondered how it was going?
Maybe after searching through the archives, I'll understand some of these things a little better.
Thank you,
David
