Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] Choosing Iris.

Hello
I am based in UK and also collect Tall bearded Space age and flat TB, but
in my local Iris group I always get tempted by a few SDB and BBs
I do not think I can send you some plants but may be some seeds
Here is my picture of Stinger someone in my Kent Group Group has for fun
managed to get some crosses they were not spectacular and I remenber the
horns were missing. I recall it was crossed with a blue. I can ask him to
self it so may be you will get more horns he may even get a picture?
I think he still has the cross I will ask and try to salvage a piece as he
is ruthless and his interest tend to be Tall bearded and they do not like
Space age so it will be a slim chance if he still has it !
We have two experts in my Kent Group Thelma Naylor, and Olga Wells they
have both an extensive experience in BBs, and SDBs but no Space age they
focus on Growth , colour, smell
I got from them a great favourite so called Jewel baby.
I brought the flower back from a bloom show and the smell is strong and
sweet.
I had three flowers and each branch and they last for several days would
strongly recomand. It is a near black/Navy blue
I also include a picture of Stinger for info this is what it looks like
over here .
These are only passing comments but hope this will help making your
ordering choice .
I was like you tempted by Mesmerizer but for me it is a poor grower, I
think it was the worse plant out of all the white I have.
Flower has the appendages but the flower is not big and showy and other
white get more attention.
All the best for your SA experiment

Hello.
Thanks for all the advice. I went and searched Riverview's Iris
catalogue for BB and SDB SA iris, and this is what I found (along
with eye-strain).

SDB - *Mini Big Horn and *Stinger
BB - *Bermuda Triangle, *Birdbath, *Cin Cin, *Crystal Nugget, Cute
Orange Horn, *Humpty Dumpty, *Space Moon and Vegas Heat.

All are said to have horns in the description, with the exceptions
of Birdbath and Humpty Dumpty, which are said to have spoons. I have
marked(*) which I am planning on acquiring for next year, due to my
taste in colors. I am also planning on getting Bye Bye Blues and
Mesmerizer in the TB category, plus the SDB rebloomer Forever Blue.
Other BB I am planning on are Artisian Lady, Border Control, and
Cranapple. My sister is going to give me some of her SDB when she
divides next year, and as she has Cool Satin (sporadic horns), I am
going to ask her to cross it with her choice of SDB and send me the
seed pod if one occurs.
