Well, I certainly love the way Olin Miller put it. I am not nearly
that eloquent, so...
I grow my own veggies because:
1. I love digging in the dirt but
2. I'm kind of lazy in that if I can't eat it, I don't plant it. (in
other words I don't do much landscaping or ornamental planting)
3. I like canning and freezing my results to feed my family
home-grown veggies for a year. This saves money because produce is
high priced at the store, and I know exactly what chemicals did or
did not go into what ends up on our dinner table.
4. I like doing swapsies with fellow gardeners (ie. some of my apples
for some of their peaches) so I can put up edibles I didn't grow but
also didn't pay for.
5. As a mom, I much prefer teaching my children to enjoy the outdoors
to parking them in front of the T.V. They will grow up learning
skills that will enable them to feed their future family.
I'm sure I could go on and on, but that's it in a nutshell or if your
prefer in a peapod.
