The erroa mite has just, last year, made its way to Vancouver Island. The
solitary wild bees mentioned are not as vulnerable to mite infestation as
wild and domestic hives, so we would be wise to encourage them. Just drill
about 5/16 inch holes in the end grain of two-by-fours, stack them four or
five high to make a bee-rearing apartment, the bees will deposit their eggs
and seal the holes. They are very good for early season pollination.
