 South Carolina--in the Southeastern US.

The plant comes up as a tiny slender round "blade"
and grows, if left alone, to a slightly larger set
of several blades 6-10" high and about a 1" onion
bulb.
I've never seen the things flower or seed so I
wonder how they manage to invade so much territory
so quickly. They're in the lawn, in the vegetable
bed, the shrubbery area, anywhere there's a little
soil.
When you try to pull them up, unless you're lucky,
you just snap off the "leaf" near ground level and
they quickly grow more. All parts of them give off
an onion odor (my mowing shoes smell so yucky I
 have to leave them outside.)
