Welcome back from your extended Mars vacation. As to the potatoes, it
sounds to me that you have already answered your own questions. You know
what you are doing, it is just hard for you to give up .99 cents! On the
other hand maybe some cosmic dust will filter down on your garden space
and wipe out black spots and anti-sprouting agents. Go for it, I say.

ps-on the other hand you could mix red sand from Mars with the dirt in
your garden, which would surely make potatoes grow.
