hi michelle!

i would mow down the weeds and then do a controlled burn with a
gardener's blowtorch.  i've done this many time and as long as you are
careful you should have no problem.  the torch is nice because you can
also get the seeds of weeds that may not have sprouted yet.  the ash
also adds nutrients to the soil.
