Because they are disgusting and I don't allow them in my
garden! Actually, it is probably because I Iive in a semi-arid
climate. In Boulder Colorado, we live in the "rain shadow" of the
Rockies. Grass, other than native grasses, will die completely
unless watered. Sometimes it even rains but the ground
doesn't get wet. Honest! The rain evaporates as it is falling and
what does make it to the ground is evaporated immediately. I believe
it is called Virga. Weird but cool! I think that slugs would die out
completely during our dry months and therefore not be around to
propagate in the spring when the moisture might be right for
them.
