You are more than welcome!!!! My soil was the same way, light rain
and hard as a rock,I put some sawdust from a band saw mill(which is very
fine),and several pickup loads of oak leaves, and adjusted the PH,by adding
lime ot over come ph,and now it is soft and growing great(about 100x400
area),and DID IT HELP!!!! More than ever made here!!!! I also
made the ridges,or terrices,sorta high,and planted cucumbers,and melons
on these.One of my secrets is,for cucubits,take a post hole digger,and
dig a 18 inch hole, mix dirt and cow manure-50-50,add little commerical
fertilizer, and plant seed in top.I want say its great, but I get two 5gal
buckets of cucumbers every 2 days,and I just pulled about 30---40lb watermellons,and
got many more to pull..Also as you use the terrices, you may find you need
to move them, change angles, you can tell how its working.I got them about
30/50 ft.apart,and it really helps with the rains.Good Planting/eating!!!!

Nesa wrote: Thanks James, that is really helpful. I will definitely do what I can to rescue the situation now.We plant all year but I usually do like 3 or 4 rotations and each time the plants are done in one end we work that part before planting again. About a third of teh garden isnt planted yet and I will do as you say before we start. |
