Re: gardening questions

Well, Fredmarna,I have no idea about the weather conditions, soil,or things there, but things dieing from ground up,means something isn't right(fertilizer, too moist or dry, bugs, etc),first three to four leaves turning yellow(stable chemicals,as zink, calcium, iron, etc),the upper, means movable chemicals(nitrogen, potash, potassium). As far as the pumkin,my vines are always about 10-15 ft.,before you start seeing small pumkins. The crack in the mellon, probably just got in it,from the top moving in transportation,or handling,if its roots are done properly,it will make it. As far as the odd shapes of the cantaloupe's shape, this happens, but tieing the cantaloupe's shape, and the dieing sweet peas, there must be soil problems.I would have it tested, bet you got some problems there, and make adjustments.I try to check mine every year, don't listen to local people, friends(just add this),it could make it worse.Just test it,if your in the US,your local County Agent, has the boxes, and their free, the samples, are about $3.00 @box,and well worth it.Hope this helps!!!!   James

Hi , I was wondering if anyone knew about cantaloupe's. Mine are doing ok, I guess. The first two are growing nice and round, but now a few are very funny shapes. Is there a reason this is happening? I recieved a honey dew plant as a gift and it looked fine untill this morning I noticed a crack forming in the skin pretty deep. Does anyone know the reason? I also have two pumkin plants, that are growing and growing. Should I prune them? At the moment I have flowers, but no pumkins. I have my second crop of sweet peas growing and just like the first, the plants are starting to grow brown from the stem up. Which I do not understand why it is happening. Any ideas out there as to why.? thank you
