In Zone 6 Pioneer Hybrid carrots, seed available from Harris Seed Co.,
yielded good,
sweet carrots when planted in early July. Weeding is easier if a piece of
burlap with
a loose weave is placed over the newly sown seed. When weeds appear, just
lift the
burlap. The carrot seedlings should be so firmly rooted that they do not
dislodge. Too bad this cannot be repeated. My experience has been that
carrots planted in early spring and harvested in summer are not of good
quality. Apparently they like cool weather.
