- This is the home page for the Vegetable Mailing List
Discussion Group. Interested parties can talk about
veggie and edible gardening. Now this discussion group is not about
how to "veg out" in life, but to understand and discuss issues pertaining to
vegetable and edible plants. A vegetable is a plant that is cultivated for its
edible part or parts. This can be its roots, stems, leaves, petioles, flowers,
fruit or seed. A edible plant is something you can eat and not get sick or die
from.
These are some of the topics this list will discuss: Vegetable garden design, propagation, cool season and warm season corps, natural and chemical
fertilizers, when to plant seeds, container gardening, vegetable storage
and canning, soil prep, water techniques and pest and plant diseases.
- Subscribe by simply sending an email message
with the word "subscribe" in the subject line (without

email message with the word "subscribe " in the

Simply send your message to veggie-list@eskimo.com
Do not send a message with a subject containing
the text 'subscribe,' 'unsubscribe,' 'digest,' or
'help' in the subject text of the message you are

Please read the list

In addition, familiarize yourself with how the list
operates, especially if you've never participated in an
Internet email discussion group before.

- Acceptable Posts
Only PG rated discussion pertaining to the list topic is
allowed.
List Monitor/Moderator
Messages are NOT screened prior to posting. This list is not
monitored but the messages are read by the
m*@eskimo.com.
List Topic
While we encourage occassional discussion on matters
peripheral but still related to the topic, we must remind
folks that this discussion forum is exclusively about propagation.
If you're not sure your post relates to the topic, or want
to see if a relative posting has been discussed, please
view
(Veggies Mailing List
Archive) prior to posting.
Assume Responsibility
Since all list subscribers have the power to post
directly to the list, this can make for an environment of
open and timely discussion as well as an environment
where irrelevant and unconstructive comments may accrue.
The list monitor(s) will make their best attempt to keep
the discussion on track. All list members are requested
to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful
manner at all times. Please route disputes to private
email.
Discipline
Please respect the monitor(s) necessary role to end
discussion threads when they're deemed inappropriate.
Uncooperative members may have their posting priveleges
and/or subscription priveleges removed.
Message Receipts
Please don't send any message receipts or automatic
replies to the list. Otherwise, your message receipts and
automatic replies will go out to the whole list. We have
configured the listserver to handle many such misposts,
but there may be some that still make it to the list.
Please assume some responsibility in this regard.
Limit of Liability
The list owners are in no way responsible for any direct or
indirect damage as a result from involvement with this
list.
Usage Rights
Participants who post to this list grant rights to the
list owner to include their posts in a archive
and grant permission to use the posts as part of a
complete list archive in other mediums. Participants may
compile a personal archive of all posts made to this
list, but are not permitted to distribute, publish or
make available to others such archived information
without the prior express written consent of thed
list owner.

- When dealing with a listserver, there are two types
of messages, namely, COMMANDS and POSTS. Unlike
traditional listservers which require the use of numerous
email addresses, we have simplified the process by
allowing for both COMMANDS and POSTS to be sent to the
same address.
NOTE: Send COMMANDS
to v*@eskimo.com
and POSTS to v*@eskimo.com
COMMANDS
These e-mail messages are intended to cause some action
to occur, such as subscribing the FROM address to a
mailing list. Commands are usually one or two word
phrases which should be entered in the SUBJECT field of
the message. The body and all other fields are ignored...
it doesn't matter what you may enter there.
The following commands are accepted:
- subscribe
- - Adds your e-mail address to the mailing list
- - You will then receive all posts
- - You are then allowed to post (assuming you post
from the exact same email account name you subscribed
under)
- unsubscribe
- - Removes your e-mail address from the mailing
list
- - You will no longer receive any posts
- - You are no longer allowed to post
- subscribe to the digest
- - Switches you to digest mode
- - You will then receive a listing of message
up to two days or 40K of data.
- help
- - A help message with list instructions and
guidelines will be returned
- POSTS
These e-mail messages are intended to be distributed to
everyone on the list. Every time you send a message,
hundreds of other people on the list receive a copy, just
as if you sent it to them personally. As a member of the
list, you will receive a copy of every message anyone
else sends. On this list, only members of the list can
post to it.
DIGESTS
At times, the traffic on this list may be high. If you
can't keep up with all of the mail, but still want to be
subscribed to the list, we suggest that you subscribe to
the digest version. The digest version of the list is
mailed out every two day or 40k of data is collected.
ASSISTANCE
If you have read through all of the troubleshooting and
policy related issues mentioned below, but still seek
assistance, please contact listmaster@eskimo.com.
Please be patient if you do not receive an immediate
response. Please do not send administrative related
messages to the list.
To correspond directly with a person, write to

- If you have problems either unsubscribing, posting or
successfully sending commands to the list, the reason 95%
of the time is due to circumstances described below.
Wrong Email Address
If you are receiving mail from the list and receive
errors when you attempt to post a message to the list or
try to unsubscribe, this may mean that the email account
you're currently sending mail from is different than the
email account you're subscribed under. While it is
possible to receive email when your account is slightly
different (your mail administrator may have your account
aliased to several different names, one of which
represents the name you're subscribed under) there is a
problem when sending mail to the list when/if the email
account names don't exactly match.
- Example:
-
- You are subscribed under an account name such as
person@mail.sever.com but your current account
name and the account you're sending mail from is
person@sever.com. You will most likely receive all
person@mail.sever.com mail at person@sever.com
but you will not be able to send mail and have it be
received by listserver systems who look for an exact
email account name match. To rectify the situation,
you need to unsubscribe from one account name and
resubscribe to the other.
To track down the problem, please try the following
prior to contacting the the list administrator
(m*@eskimo.com)
for assistance.
- Locate the original subscription confirmation
email receipt you received upon subscribing. (The
one you were requested to save for future
reference.) Note what email account that was sent
to. This is the account you are subscribed under.
- If you cannot locate the original subscription
confirmation email receipt, you still need to
determine what email account you may have been
subscribed under at the time you subscribed.
Consult with your email administrator or check your
mail archives to determine what that account name
may have been.
- Use some common sense. Your address may have
slightly changed, and you should be able to track
it down and rectify the situation without
requesting assistance from the listmaster.
- If you cannot rectify the situation, contact
the listmaster at
m*@eskimo.com
and he will assist at their earliest convenience.
