Re: wanna photograph

I checked with a fiend from India who also gardens and he is not aware of
either kale or Swiss chard being grown in India.

Do you have access to the internet. If so, many seed companies have
photographs. For example, Burpee has Swiss chard photos at
http://burpee.goshoppingonline.com/. Go to the site and type Swiss chard in
the search window. It brings up thumbnail photos that can be enlarged by a
mouseclick. Johnny's also has photos in their online catalog at
http://johnnyseeds.com/1999hgcatpdf.htm. Kale is on page 32, Swiss chard on
page 63. Nice article on how to grow kale at
http://www.ianr.unl.edu/pubs/nebfacts/nf51.htm. Also for Swiss chard at
http://ianrwww.unl.edu/pubs/horticulture/g1123.htm.

Swiss chard is a variety of the common beet - botanical name: Beta vulgaris
var Cicla.. It is also sometimes known as sea-kale beet but is not related
to sea-kale. It is often used as a substitute for spinach in warm climates
such as ours where spinach is not well adapted - milder flavored than
spinach. In some European countries, the beets that are grown for their
edible greens are also called chard but are not the as Swiss chard.

Kale is sort of a cabbage that doesn't head - botanical name; Brassica
oleracea var. acephala. We grow 2 kinds. Scotch has crumpled, curled,
prickly gray-green leaves. Blue Siberian is less crumpled and less curled
and is blue-green. Flavor is like that of strong-flavored cabbage. There
is also a flowering kale that develops a rather dirty-looking head some
people find attractive.

Hope this helps you find it. Good luck and success.
Olin
