Hi Shelley--
Welcome. USDA zones and Sunset zones are ways of describing the
garden/agricultural environment based on high and low temps, first and last
frost dates--to help growers determine what's safe to plan in a particular
region, and when...
USDA (dept. of Agriculture) zone maps can be found here:
ml>for an intro to the difference between Sunset and USDA--essentially
Sunset magazine established zones for climate in 13 Western states that are
more detailed and more precise than USDA zones because they take into
account rainfall, summer temps etc. Not sure though if NE Texas is
included in Sunset's designations.
Looks like you're probably in USDA zone 7--but you can check it by zipcode
at the Web address above. Can't seem to find a Sunset zone map on the Web
but you can probably find the Sunset Western Garden book at a library or
garden center or online at Amazon.com.
Didn't mean to write a treatise. Happy gardening, happy holidays, stop by
my Web site if you if you want to surf Vegetable Gardening links and articles.
Cheers,
Havi
