Dr. James Baggett (Jim) would not be happy to be identified with the
University of Oregon! Although Eugene is only 40 miles from Corvallis, the
gulf between those two institutions is pretty wide. Jim has done a lot of
fine vegetable breeding work, carrying along that of Dr. William "Tex"
Frazier in the 1950's. Many of his varieties are standards in the Pacific
NW and are in some national catalogs (Oregon Sugar Pod II peas, Oregon
Spring and Siletz and other tomatoes, Bush beans with superior quality,
Summertime lettuce, etc.) For short season areas, many more of you should
try them. Main sources here are: Territorial Seed Co., P.O. Box 157,
Cottage Grove, OR 97424 WEBSITE www.territorial~seed.com and Nichols Garden
Nursery, 1190 North Pacific Hwy., Albany,OR 97321-4580 WEBSITE
