Hi Havi
I have Fava Beans (called Field beans here) as a green manure in a 4ft x
24ft bed. I sowed them in late September early October. With our very mild
(so far) autumn/winter this year they are now over a foot tall. They should
be dug in before flowering and certainly a good three weeks before planting
the next crop. Because the roots and foliage are very bulky the soil won't
be much good for direct seed sowing, but planting out well developed
seedlings from pots should be fine.
Any crop that needs lots of Nitrogen will appreciate your efforts. :)
Regards and happy new year
Stephen
