Lettuce seed, especially if they haven't gotten wet, should last at least 3 years.  The best way to store them is in a ziplock bag in the fridge or in a closed jar in a cool, dry place.  Moisture is the thing that usually kills them so if you have any silica gel (packets you get in new shoes etc) or milk powder, put a couple of tablespoons in with your seed.

I usually have seeds left over after sowing, especially lettuce seeds.  How long will the seeds remain in a usable condition and what is the best way to store them?  I usually store them in a sealed envelope indoors.
