Hi Pat -
No, the inoculant isn't necessary. The first year I grew them without and
had no problems. I think it just makes them set the nitrogen in the soil.
I grow all my vegetables in raised beds. In the Pacific Northwest we don't
always get a lot of summer heat and the raised beds keep the soil a little
warmer. You may not have that problem.
As far as sources, several catalogues carry them. I just looked at my
