Mucuna- Magic bean?

I watched a documentary on TV about the Mucuna bean which is supposed to work miracles on soil. Am just wondering if anyone here has tried it.Also will planting beans near my corn help ?Or do the beans have to be planted and harvested first, i.e should I plant corn where I previously planted beans? I ask because my present corn plants are growing rather slowly despite feeding and I think beans might give them that added nitrogen fix.
