Hi; my grandma taught me to put plastic bags or glass jars filled with
water around plants to protect from overnight frosts.  If the bags are
going to be in place for awhile, I imagine they would have to be replaced
with new ones occasionally unless sunlight warmed them; once the bags or
Wall O' Water freezes solid, there would not be any energy release going
on.  I have used water bags during temperatures as low as 20F.
