Chris,
Any fence will do. We have some rebar left from pouring a pad for our
steel barn that we use for peas. We use T-poles (get them at the local
farm store or Lowes or Home Depot. I also have some old tent poles that I
use. I wire the fence to the poles. I also have some 39 inch high fencing
that we use for our sheep (odd pieces left over from the 330 foot rolls).
You could make the fencing into a cylinder and use it for peas and if the
holes are big enough, plant tomatoes the inside and tie the plants to the
fencing with cloth strips. last year, I also tied tomatoes to straight
runs of fencing after the peas since the fences were already there.
With peas, it doesn't matter about the fencing as they will grab it. If
you are growing larger fruits such as pumpkins, tomatoes, etc, you need a
strong type of fencing or rebar. If you grow pumpkins, you will need to
make slings or hammocks to support them. Commercial greenhouse cukes are
allow to hang as it make for a straight product.
