I grew okra in my garden here in central PA, which is zone 5/6. I did not
have any trouble direct seeding this in the garden. Last year's did not do
well because I got it in the ground late and sort of crammed in the corner.
I swear they grow when your not looking. I tried to religiously check
them each day to pick them before they got to long and woody. What was too
small one day would be six inches long the next. Even so, I kept the pods
picked and the plants kept producing right up to frost. The flowers are
really beautiful. I believe I planted the Clemson variety.
