I have read that you should rotate crops every year, especially those
that are prone to diseases like potatoes and eggplants, which are both
part of the nightshade family.
This will be my fourth year in a rotation, but I do have a problem where
I seem to grow more of one kind of vegetable that others. For example,
in the nightshade family, I grow 12 tomato plants, 12 pepper plants, 4
20' rows of potatoes, and eggplants. In the brassica family, I really
only grow brussel sprouts, and in terms of nitrogen fixing legumes, I
grow snap peas and pole beans, throw in a good crop of corn (I don't
know off hand which family this is part of) and when I rotate, my
nightshade plants always seem to overlap with those grown in seasons
past. I am trying to be a good organic gardener, but an ideal rotation
seems hard to attain. Does anyone out there have any advice?
Thanks!
