Most gardeners experience well under 50% germination for
hard-to-germinate seeds like carrots. You may plant a 10 foot (3+
meter) row of carrots and use 120 seeds to get 45 or so carrots. Carrot
seed lasts fairly well if refrigerated so if you plant 3 10 foot rows
per year (one in early spring, one in late spring and one in mid-summer)
you'll just about use up 1200 seeds in 3 years.
