Hi Chris,
Sounds like your gardening season is a lot like ours except yours is
probably much more humid.  In our version of zone 9, we plant cool season
vegetables like beets, green onions and salad greens from September through
February although germination can be difficult in December and January.
Warm season crops like watermelons and cucumbers are planted after the soil
warms in March and cukes can be planted again in July to make a crop before
frost.  Watermelons are pretty well adapted but cucumbers are kinda
marginal. Tomatoes are set out from February 15 through March 15 - frost
protection is sometimes required.  We can also set out tomatoes again in
August but protection from light frost is almost always necessary.  Fall
tomatoes require lots of attention so I usually don't bother with them.
Some gardeners are still picking tomatoes from fall plantings.  Happy
