RE: veggie-digest Digest V101 #57

Hi all,
Japanese beetles (iridescent dark brown or black, about the size of the
fingernail on my little finger) are a garden scourge! They can be seen
eating on your favorite plants in broad daylight. Kill every one you see,
because they can really damage certain plants. My lythrum should be
beautiful, but only a few small blossoms because of Jbs. They also love
basil. Don't seem to like tomatoes. I squash Jbs; I've also heard of picking
them off the plants, and dropping them into a can of gasoline. Have no
mercy!
I am not fond of June bugs either (light brown, not iridescent, more
the size of my (female) thumbnail). I rarely see one in the day. They are
attracted to light at night, and make noise against window screens, trying
to get in. But to my knowledge, they don't bother the garden, so I don't try
to kill them, unless they insist on flying into my hair.
Glad to hear we got the ants taken care of! If I had the guts to go
down my crawl space, I could probably get rid of my carpenter ants without
exterminators/poison/$$$.
