Well, I'm sure I don't have an answer to what ails your tomatoes--but I
know a really good place to look--best diagnostic tool for tomato problems
I've seen on the Web, it's at
http://165.91.48.7/imagemap/mgmaps/mgprob.html
Master Gardener Online: Insect and Disease Problems of Tomato
the page with photos of leaf problems is at:
http://165.91.48.7/imagemap/mgmaps/tomleaf/tomleaf.html
WARNING:Lots of photos may make this a slow download.
Tomato problems are many and varied, and sometimes curled or yellowing
leaves may mean little or nothing at all, or they can be a serious problem.
Even as my plants are bearing fruit, often the bottom leaves will yellow,
curl and dry--I usually snip them off with clean sharp clippers or
scissors. Don't defoliate the whole plant, but mid-season bottom pruning
works for me.
Some tomato varieties are prone to "leaf-curl", which isn't pretty, but
doesn't adversely affect the fruit, or further growth of the plant. I have
6 tomato plants, each a different variety this year, and my Romas have
terrible leaf-curl, which began at the bottom and worked its way up, now
only the newest growth looks healthy. But the first fruits are red, and
the blossoms up top are setting fruit. Hope this is encouraging.
Remember, rotate tomatoes in the garden, use healthy soil in sterile
containers, look for VFN resistant varieties when you can --but you
probably know this stuff.
Best of luck,
Havi
