OK, I'll bite. The first year I ever made compost was up in Alaska--I
added equisetum (sp?)/horsetail weeds to the heap, thinking that they would
break down in the heat of the pile. Well, this is one indestructible
weed--been around since dinosaur times more or less. I was pulling
equisetum out of my garden beds for the next 5 years--till we moved.
The stuff makes a great scouring pad on a camping trip and I've the
impression it is used in Bio-dynamic applications or sprays--but I don't
know how or what for.
