Re: Green Beans - Leaf Attack






Mexican bean beetle. Ortho book says:When the adults first appear apply an
insecticide containing carbaryl or diazinon. Be sure to spray the
undersides of the leaves, where the insects feed. Early treatment to
control the adults may save application later to control the larvae, which
are more damaging and harder to kill. After the harvest remove and destroy
all plant debris to reduce over wintering spots for adults. 
The picture shows ugly yellow,  or orange, soft bodied grubs. The adults,
beetles,  have 16 black spots on their backs. 
Best to try and take a couple to your local extension office for ID to be
sure. No sense in spraying if you don't know what they are.  
I don't like to recommend chemicals but in your severe case it sounds like
diazinon may be the answer. Be sure and Read the label. "the label is the
law in California"
