Hiya William, and the rest of the list,
I'm not an expert in what you're doing, but from all I know,
changing the soil would be acceptable, if you had access
to good replacement soil. Most of us just have to keep the
soil we were given and keep trying to improve it.
My favorite gardening book is Derek Fell's VEGETABLES:
How to Select, Grow and Enjoy. I have to admit I like it
largely for the lush color photos of veggies, but it also has
a very useful chart of planting times, and thorough discussions
of the planting, harvesting, and use of each vegetable. I hope
it's still in print because it's a prize.
