Nesa, I'm so happy to hear your news! Just goes to show that hard work
really does pay off.
Rena - fantastic news for you, too! Those kids are so lucky.
As for me - this is the best gardening year I've ever had, so far. I got so
many strawberries I'm tired of picking them (they always get eaten though -
I'd expected to freeze some!). My 5 yo daughter is a lettuce freak, and
we've had enough to satisfy even her. Yesterday we had sugar snap peas for
dinner, though I thought that particular row wasn't going to do much. This
is the first time for 7 years I've actually gotten zucchini from my plants -
must have been a bee shortage, but now there are plenty little ones in
there. My tomatoes, that I sprouted from seed (not easy here in OH) are
doing great, even the one I thought didn't survive transplanting is
blooming. I also have a few volunteers scattered around the garden from the
tomatoes the bugs ate last year - can't bring myself to weed 'em out - and a
few of them are blooming too. My bush beans are blooming, though I think a
rabbit ate one row. Cucumbers are getting off to a very slow start, but
since it finally stopped raining every day they're beginning to grow.
Peppers are slow too, but I think I finally saw a bud. The only
disappointment was the watermelons, which I put back in the corner of our
yard - it got too wet for them and the rabbits finished the job. There's
one left though, so I'm crossing my fingers.
Yay! Happy gardening, all!
