Thrips

I live in the midlands of South Carolina, and we seem to
be experiencing a bumper crop of thrips this year. The problem
encompasses at least three counties, and many people that I
know are pulling up their tomatoes because of the viral diseases
that are following the thrips. I'm seeing thrip damage on tomatoes,
peppers, and ground cherries (tomatillo relative). The corn,
cantaloupe, and watermelons look ok.

Right now I'm using a soap spray every five days, or after every
hard rain (rare right now in SC). I've put diatomous earth around
the whole vegetable garden and each plant. I'm debating ordering
green lacewings.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Pam
