It is quite simple.
Don't ever open e-mail attachments from someone you don't know or aren't
expecting attachments from. If you are not sure, e-mail the sender to ask.
If they are on the level they won't object to your inquiry.
Mail itself is not a problem, especially if you use plain text. You can't
get a virus from plain text because it is not executable.
An attachment can contain an executable file or a WP file plus Macro.
Windows 95 (if you use it) will warn you if you are going to open a file
that has been downloaded and gives you the option of saving to disk rather
than opening. This is a safer option.
The bottom line is "If in doubt, don't open it and hit the big D button"
Better safe than sorry
