RE: snap peas

Hi all,

Does this blue-green color apply to scarlet runner beans? Mine are not
deep green, more pale green. Being grown in a container up a trellis on my
deck. First time growing these, and I used a different brand of potting
soil than I used before. Just wanted to know if they were ok. They seem to
be growing slow. Can anyone help??

Thanks,
Beth (MD zone 7)

Martha,
Most peas (including snap peas) have a blue green cast to them. Is this the
color that you mean?

If the plants tend towards yellow, they are either water-stressed (one way
or the other!), or need to be fed. The yellow color could also be
indicative of nitrogen-deficiency.

Training them back down the trellis? Sure, if you want to work them
everyday. Plants naturally grow UP. You would be working against their
nature, and that's tough to do.
