what plants can't "see"

-- [ From: nonayobusiness * EMC.Ver #2.3 ] --

Hi Stan. I seem to recall something from biology about the respiration
that plants do at night being just respiration, with no PS going on at hat
time. The colors of light that plants cannot absorb are the color of the
plant, namely green, usually, because that's the color of light that we see
being reflected away from the plant. But if you are concerned about a
plant's not getting its beauty sleep, then for stuff like tomatoes or other
starting plants, I don't think you have to worry. If, however, you were
trying to get Kalanchoe, xmas cactus, chrysanthemums and Poinsettia's to
bloom then you'd a have a problem. These and other plants bloom according
to the amount of light and darkness they are exposed to. With starting
plants, I've left my florescents on all night, if I forget to turn them off,
and the plants didn't seem to mind a bit. Now, my husband when he saw the
electric bill, that's another story....
